Purchase of Gambling.com a safe bet?

Online domain broker Sedo announced today that it has sold the domain name gambling.com for $2.5 million on behalf of UK-based Media Corporation. The company says it is ‘pleased’ with the price, although Media Corp were rumoured to have paid $20 million for the domain name back in 2005.

The sale is the most expensive domain purchase of the year and the third biggest public sale ever handled by Sedo behind sex.com ($13 million) and vodka.com ($3 million).

The sale reinforces the importance placed on the acquisition of a good domain for an ecommerce website. Domains with keywords in them are proven to significantly help rankings as part of a Search Engine Optimisation campaign. A websites domain name is to most people the only way to access a website and with more and more domains being registered many companies are turning to brokers like Sedo to acquire that all important memorable domain name.
