Pin Digital to deliver international rail provider's 3rd generation web site
3 April 2006
Warwickshire based web development agency Pin Digital Ltd has recently won a contract to create a third generation website for Balfour Beatty Rail.
Balfour Beatty Rail is the UK's largest rail engineering and services provider and is an international leader in rail engineering projects. The business was already long established in the UK and around the world before it added a major maintenance and renewals capability with the acquisition of three former British Rail units in 1996. Since then the acquisition of further businesses overseas in the United States, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Malaysia and Brazil, means they are now truly regarded as a global player in the rail business.
“We have enjoyed a long working relationship with Balfour Beatty and after developing the first two websites are highly delighted to be working with BB Rail for a third time.” said Steve Noctor, Managing Director of Pin Digital. “By understanding the needs of their business we are able to deliver leading edge solutions befitting of such an international leader in the rail marketplace.”
The Balfour Beatty Rail website has come a long way over the years in terms of technology and functionality. Version two of the website was developed utilising Microsoft’s .NET technology, and featured a full permissions based content approval system. The third generation of the website will be built on the foundations of the existing website but with a new cleaner design and even more advanced features.
“We have chosen to develop the site using Microsoft’s .NET framework,” said Colin Jaggs, Pin Digital’s lead developer on the project. “We have developed a multilingual Content Management System that makes updating pages as easy as using a simple word processor, and in any pre-specified language. Microsoft’s .NET is enabling us to develop these solutions with improved reliability, scalability, performance, and security.”
The website is due to be completed and online in Summer 2006 at www.bbrail.com. Pin Digital will once again be working with Flame Communications in Germany for the new design and corporate identity element of the website.
