As a designer im sure you can imagine how hard it can be keeping everything in line at times! What I mean when I say that is this! You've been asked to do some concept visuals for a client and in your creative moment your throwing images, text, vector shapes and all sorts together to try and pull in something and give that boring old clients website a lease of life! Then after you have created a concept visual you all agree on and it gets the final sign off from the client – its game on for the pixel police...
Its in this small space between design and 'techy' ('techy' meaning the coder and builder of the website) a small and hopefully short appearance of the 'pixel police' is now pushing closer! Now this may sound mad but they can actually get inside the raw format of the design file and start getting there pixel rulers out! These guys have pressed suits and shiny shoes and nothing about their uniform is out of place! These guys can spot a pixel out of line form 300 yards away!
So after they have got inside your file they then come to the surface and begin to show themselves! Their main job is to spot any pixel that is out of line or a pixel that could cause the upmost of grief to the 'techy'! You tend to find that the pixel police only work with the 'techys' as the techys can get lonely at times! You know how the techy guys get! The designer or designers work in being all creative talking about fruit and cheese and how apple will finally rule the world and how image is everything and the world is their canvas! But now the techy sees his opportunity to bring the designer down a peg or two! Guess who he calls in? The pixel police that's who and guess what designers – they’re coming for you!
I used to hate those pixel police so much with their pixel beading eyes on my beautiful pixel creations and I used to fight the hard fight! These guys want to make you get inline - don't think out of it, stay in it! They want to control you, they want you to have you creativity within there limits. Should you lay down and let them walk all over you?
Now the truth is this...
I've been pushed around for the pixel police for sometime here at Pin Digital and in all honesty I think a small part of me is grateful! My work has increasingly got better and these pixel police have started to lay off me! Its made me look that little bit more when I am designing and to be honest I don't want those guys turning up anymore! But am I safe? I must stay strong with my clean designs and never let those pixels fall out of line! In a small way I miss them and sometimes I wonder! I wonder where did these guys come from? What is it that drives them? Who is their leader and if you wanted to, (at times) how do you kill them??
